Job Summary

A Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient care in a variety of health care facilities. The responsibilities of RNs may differ slightly depending on the facility they choose to work within. RNs work in hospitals, nursing homes, convalescent homes, medical clinics, doctor offices, treatment centers and health service agencies.

RNs typically work under the direction of physicians or registered nurses. Some are self-employed and work through nursing staffing agencies for private duty service.

RN’s carry out critical tasks such as:

Administer medication

Monitor patient vital signs
Prepare the patient for surgery
Administer injections and IV fluids
Assist the physician and surgeon in the operating room

Program Objective

The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is pre-licensing RN program designed to meet NCLEX-RN® examination requirements for licensing as a registered nurse through the California Board of Registered Nursing. The program provides the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to meet the expectations and demands of a licensed nurse in today’s healthcare system. The program consists of four semesters based on an educational structure and philosophy with focus on student success. It provides a foundation of knowledge and practice to develop the necessary critical skills to begin a career and grow in the nursing profession. Graduates receive an Associate Degree in Nursing upon successful completion of the program.

Program Description

The ADN-RN pre-licensing program consist of 1665 clock hours of combined theory and practical instruction for a total of 71 semester credit units. The instruction delivery is a hybrid method consisting of in-person instruction and distance education. The clinical instruction takes place at approved clinical facilities under the direct supervision of clinical instructor.
